Join General Alfred A. Valenzuela and Richard Pena for a critical discussion on legal travel abroad, with a specific emphasis on the upcoming legal delegation to Colombia in September 2025. General Valenzuela will provide a firsthand military perspective from his four years stationed in Colombia during a period of extreme turbulence, including the 1980 kidnapping of the U.S. Ambassador, the takedown of Pablo Escobar, and the complex peace negotiations with terrorist groups. Richard Pena, a former president of the Austin Bar, State Bar of Texas, and American Bar Foundation, will share vital lessons from leading multiple international legal delegations, focusing on the challenges and protocols for practicing law in high-risk and authoritarian countries. This essential session will be moderated by Michael Black, former President of the San Antonio Bar Association.
